I happen to be VERY knowledgeable on this subject, so listen to my wisdom and don't interrupt.

Yes, it is true that more and more anime is released on Blu Ray in its censored state. No, the reason for that is absolutely not what I'm sure you think it is.

The reason for that is streaming.

Blu Ray sales plummeted hard because of it. They plummeted so hard that it's now almost a financial liability to release anime physically at all, and it's usually done as a part of a marketing strategy, not in the hope of making a significant enough revenue. Therefore, any costs connected to these releases tend to be trimmed nowadays.

This brings us to the issue of censorship. Because sometimes anime is made with it in mind in the first place, its removal requires creation of additional content and additional working hours for the animators (and the opportunity costs of them not being able to do something more profitable). So the studios increasingly just say "screw it!" and release the censored version.

If I had a penny for each way streaming has made our lives worse, I could open my own Blu Ray factory.
