Alright, it is Wednesday and I am gonna post the tenth volume of Rin-ne. Feel free to react or comment on any panel, though I appreciate if image replies are not used during the dump. Feel free to discuss anything related to Rin-ne after the dump.

Rin-ne is Rumiko Takahashi's return to comedy after Inuyasha. Rin-ne is VIZ's localized title, presumably chosen to assist in pronunciation. The original title is 境界のRINNE (Kyokai/Kyoukai no Rinne) which means Rinne of the Boundary. While it is not a megahit like some of her other huge series, I highly recommend it to fans of Ranma 1/2 and Urusei Yatsura though it is obviously different.

I will be using scans of the official VIZ localization. Be aware that some of the larger images may have been edited to be lower quality due to image size limits.

In addition, I will be dumping the one short story from the Rumic World and Rumic Theatre series that came out around this time. Today, the scans I have of the one shot are the official VIZ ones. Today, that will be "Trouble with the Neighbors".

Here's a bit from that interview. You can tell she wants people to be able to jump into any chapter whenever.

"How did the work come about?
Motegi: Having worked on Inuyasha for 12 years and with that being such a serious story, Takahashi-sensei herself said, "I think the next one will be a comedy work that can be read casually."

After that, we had many meetings about the setting and the staging, and although the general framework was formed, it seemed that Takahashi-sensei was not able to come up with a sense of the main character, which was the most important part.

At the very last minute, two weeks before the serialization was to begin, it was suggested, "wouldn't it be interesting if the main character was poor?" From that moment on, the main character's clothes, personality, and lifestyle emerged concretely in her mind, and the character "Rinne Rokudo" was born.

I remember being very moved by the moment I witnessed the main character being born from Takahashi-sensei's mind."

I still find it crazy how last minute Rinne's entire schtick was thought of.

Also, this is apparently when the simultaneous releases to the United States ended. Furinkan states that:
"Kyokai no RINNE was American publisher Viz's first attempt at doing a simultaneous manga release the same week the chapter premiered in Japan. This went off without a hitch until this week, when the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami which struck on March 11th disrupted much of life in Japan. Viz was cautious to publish any chapters simultaneously when they were unsure if Shonen Sunday issues were widely available to Japanese audiences. Ultimately the Kyokai no RINNE simultaneous publication never returned and Viz's Shonen Sunday online imprint/web portal was retired."

A bit sad. Of course, now that VIZ has the app, we have Rumiko Takahashi simultaneous releases again!

死神界のタブー was the original title. タブー is tabuu so it is a loanword from English. I double checked what the etymology of the word was because I was curious and it apparently comes from tapu from Tongan, a language spoken on the island of Tonga in Polynesia.

I will be returning next Saturday to dump Volume 11 of Rin-ne. I probably will be doing it early in the morning, due to some external factors. Sorry! But right now, I will be dumping the Rumic one-shot "Trouble with the Neighbors".

隣家の悩み (Rinka no nayami) or "Trouble with the Neighbors" was published on March 5th, 2011 in Big Comic Original. As such, it was published around the time of these chapters.

This translation is a fanscan. Of course, as unofficial fanscans and translations, they have their own issues but at the least we don't have to worry about flipped art. This story has four pages of color and four pages of red tint. It seems the fanscans found the original printing of the story, which is great.

I like this one! It is pretty fun and exciting.

Finally got back to a current thread. I've been stuck in the archives for ten days. Storytimes are brutal.

I like rinne but I wish the anime were a bit better. It's just a little too unambitious. Ranma's a fantastic anime and it really elevates the work to have the manga for casual reading and the anime to really sink your teeth into.
