Guys, I'm behind on anime. Is Solo Leveling really as good as everyone says? Or is it normie lauded slop?
I do like Shonens. But I want something with a bit of heart. Not just powerwank.

Igris was the only really good one in 1st season, I thought 2nd season overall had pretty good fights though. Most notably the elf guy, the orc wizard and the ant.

Is solo leveling even an anime?
It's so basic i even hesitante to put it alongside other anime.

I don't think normies know about Solo Leveling.
I think it's mostly shilled by bots but out of the fans who are actually humans they are mostly shonentards.
Now shonentards aren't the same thing as normal fags, they might be more common than right and proper otaku but they are still a fringe.
So I wouldn't consider something like JJK that was popular with every shonentard 'normie', that being said normies might have heard about whatever the big shonen more than other anime because they are somewhat likely to know a shonentard.

The most consistent thing known by normies is Studio Ghibli and not much else but Attack on Titan did break into the normie sphere briefly. Edgerunners and Frieren have skirted the edge of normiedom but not really penetrated inward.

Also, I think I was confusing the title for another anime. what's the one where it's like some event affects everyone in a city? And they all get power levels or something? I can't remember. But that's the one I was really curious about. Anyone know the title?

And then everyone gets a level and experience or some kind of power level score. And the reason I confused it with solo leveling, was that the shows concept was something similar to the title. You not including ALL the details. Sure, if you pick and choose what details you regard, then it can be anything. But you're leaving out that whole part where it suddenly happens in a city. It's not some isekai. Rather, it's a city wide event that changes everything for everyone in the regular world.

It was fine. Season 2 did better then season 1 but that isn't saying much. The pacing is pretty quick and comes at a detriment of actually getting to know any of the cast especially the main character. MC is fine. I didn't hate him by the end of the season.

Korean media is often bogged down by spite and negativity to really enjoy anything. Hard to envision series like this as anything but fleeting entertainment. Of course this is hardly exclusive to Korea, plenty of Japanese schlock, but usually there’s something substantial enough to capture people’s attention alongside it.
