K-on was shown on Disney Japan and was successful there. Unlike 80% of seinen and 99% of shounen most kodomo anime are actually good so it speaks to its high quality

The intentionally low stakes, mild sexualization (Only really two segments with Mio and some jokes at her embarrassment and large bust), and Yui being made the main character with her innocent and childlike worldview helped.

Also, they hid the innuendo perfectly.

the manga had more yuri gags while the anime had more implicit scenes

The light doses of fanservice are proof that this show is meant to appeal to adolescents and older. Even the main theme of the show, treasuring the fleeting time of youth before you lose it, is a theme that's specifically directed towards an older audience. High schoolers and college students who are just entering adulthood for the first time.

Azusa's delicious chocolate tan is one of the most erotic things I've ever seen in an anime. I'm sorry, but this one-off gag doesn't even compare to this.

>Why does it feel like a kodomo show?
Because it's a seinen. The differences are small outside of fanservice and romantic subtext.

I graduated high school at 17 and I started the anime during my senior year and finished it shortly after my graduation. It's been my favorite anime ever since. They can absolutely appreciate it. Especially since Azusa's arc speaks to them.

i had a similar experience but i think most people (myself included) can't appreciate what we've got until it's gone, hence the best time being after high school
