Why is it so common for newer anime fans to be anti-classic or anti-retro anime? If you're really into movies or music, you're expected to be familiar with classic films or albums, but with anime so many newer fans are actively against watching them. I can understand this from more casual fans who only occasionally watch some random popular shounen or seasonal, but I'm talking about people watch a ton of anime and are active in some sort of community for it. This isn't an "old thing good, new thing bad" thing, I just think refusing to watch something because it's "too old" is weird and arbitrary

A lot of "classics" aren't actually all that good, just popular or pushed by ecelebs and critics trying to forcefully influence their audiences.

People do the same thing with movies and music (though the "born in the wrong generation" thing is most common with music). And anime generally doesn't even go back as far as movies do. There's stuff before it but even on /a/ people only generally go back to the 70s while I've watched plenty of movies from the 20s for instance.

Well, some older anime are really rough to watch. Take original Baki for example. But there are some good classics, like To love ru, Toradora, K-on. It's just that those shows are older than most people who watch anime, so it's a bit hard to get into the culture that was taking place back then.

What do you mean "original Baki"? By the other "classics" you mention I'd guess you're talking about the early 00s TV series. There was at least an OVA before that.
