Why is Goku vs Vegeta the most iconic fight in anime history? What went so right here?

I dunno but Tarku lost this fight despite the flashy panels.

Reminder that bejita counts this as a loss in namek and later at the end of z he exclaims that one day he'll defeat kakarot.
>But my 2-0
Mear headcannon after all why would the proud prince of all saiyans be a sore winner?

Legitimate back and forth with no certainty as to who would win or lose since Goku got killed at the start of the series fighting Raditz. Power levels make sense within the fight and the Kaio-ken multiplier is totally understood. Oozaru being Vegeta's trump card makes sense because Goku already did that in the OG run. Vegeta not knowing the weakness of the Oozaru makes sense, so when he loses the Great Ape form it doesn't seem like total bullshit that Yajirobe does it. Krillin whiffs, Gohan whiffs, Goku gets his ass whooped, and Vegeta barely makes it out alive. Everything feels earned.

Compare the Freiza vs. Goku fight where everything phenomenal until the fight resumes with Goku as a Super Saiyan, at which point it becomes incredibly boring.

while goku vs vegita is great, i'd say goku vs freiza is more iconic. mainly because they spend 20 something episodes fighting

I genuinely can barely remember it. Whereas Frieza's was more memorable and iconic if only because it's infamously dragged out.

The fight was brutal. It's actually interesting how tame the Goku vs Freeza fight is in comparison. Goku broke zero bones against Freeza. There was no gore whatsoever, other than bruises and scrapes. Did Toriyama just want to tone things down? I don't know. Goku walked away from Namek with no serious injuries, and it wasn't necessarily from Freeza's lack of trying.

Namek had a good amount of gore too but it was already cleaner when it came to battle damage. The gore was usually in the fatal blows
