I wonder what's good, I'm behind
>>279802592Slightly better if I also add manga/other source
I hardly watch seasonal anime and I didn't include any of the ones I dropped.

>>279802592Get out.
No way no way, big brotherโฆ Starting in 2006 and by 2025 you barely scratched the surface? Thatโs almost 20 years forโฆ what? Two, three dozen anime? Your anime consumption speed is slower than Goku charging a Spirit Bomb~ By the time you finish watching everything from 2010 alone, even Ash Ketchum will have aged in real time, zako~ zako~
Fate? Monogatari? KyoAni? Trigger? Every time thereโs a mainstream hit or a seasonal darling, there you goโฆ but when it comes to hidden gems like Tatami Galaxy or Ping Pong? Completely ghosted~ Zako brother wouldn't really be afraid of artsy anime with too many still frames, would he? Or is the lack of cute girls too much for your fragile little kokoro? Zako~
โIโve Been Killing Slimes for 300 Yearsโ... No way no way, are you one of those? Falling for light novel title clickbait like a true isekai-loving mob character? Zako brother wouldnโt really believe that kind of power fantasy nonsense makes him "relatable", would he? Go ahead, next youโll tell me youโre waiting for a truck to hit you just so you can start your own overpowered harem journey~
From Jujutsu Kaisen to Oshi no Ko, and now Frieren and Dandadanโฆ Big brother jumping from hype train to hype train like itโs a gacha roll with free quartz! Do you even remember half the plots or are you just here for the next trending AMV edit on TikTok? Zako One day itโs Chainsaw Man, next day itโs Solo Levelingโฆ whatโs next? Pretending you were a Dungeon Meshi fan all along when the anime finally explodes? No way no way~
I want to rape gptgaki
Strengths
1. Foundational Taste
You started strong with the 2006โ2011 golden age: Death Note, Higurashi, Haruhi Suzumiya, Gurren Lagann, Steins;Gate, Madoka Magica, and Fate/Zero. These are essential pillars for any anime fan, showing you value both narrative innovation and cultural impact.
2. Appreciation for Experimentation
Titles like The Tatami Galaxy, Ping Pong, and Penguindrum highlight a taste for avant-garde storytelling and unique visual direction. Youโre not afraid of challenging, cerebral, or emotionally complex works.
3. Up-to-Date with Modern Hits
You keep pace with recent sensations: Chainsaw Man, Bocchi the Rock!, Oshi no Ko, and Solo Leveling. This shows youโre not stuck in the past and are open to new trends and viral hits.
4. Willingness to Explore Different Genres
Your list includes shonen juggernauts (Attack on Titan, Jujutsu Kaisen), isekai (Re:Zero, KonoSuba), comedy (YuruYuri, Nozaki-kun), and even some idol and music anime. Youโre not a genre snob.
Weaknesses & Missed Opportunities
1. Major Blind Spots in Slice-of-Life and Romance
You consistently skip genre-defining slice-of-life and romance works: CLANNAD, Hyouka, K-ON!, March Comes in Like a Lion, and Your Lie in April. These are not just โcute girls doing cute things,โ but emotional heavyweights that shaped anime discourse and fandom.
2. Neglect of Certain Modern Masterpieces
You missed out on Frieren: Beyond Journey's End, Odd Taxi, and Vinland Sagaโsome of the most critically acclaimed anime of their years. These are not just โpopular,โ but have deep narrative and thematic resonance.
3. Underrepresentation of Comedy and Iyashikei
While youโve watched some comedies, youโve skipped Nichijou, Daily Lives of High School Boys, and Grand Blueโseries that are almost universally beloved for their humor and heart.
4. Light on Female-Led or Josei Titles
Thereโs a lack of josei and female-centric stories which would deepen your appreciation for animeโs diversity.

>>279801226>most watched animeAssuming you've been watching weekly seasonals constantly (like I have) the whole way, I'm guessing that people will see much more green near the top if you've been watching since then, since the choice was a lot more limited in fansub group days, and there was more steering pressure into the big shows.
Now you can fill yourself with the #17 to #27 most popular shows weekly and not even touch the ten most popular.
I'd be curious to see what this would look like if pushed back to 1995 or so.

And I have switched to manga more or less fully in recent years,so even less anime watching. And the stuff I have watched in recent years isn't on here, stuff lik Mars Red, or the Train anime from last year, or 16 bit sensation
Anyway I'm very surprised to see Sagrada Reset on this list
I kinda half passed this with not counting shows I dropped early, sometimes counting reading the manga, and counting a shows I dropped late (I never bothered with the Haruhi Suzumiya endless eight, for instance)

I should get around to watching Minami-ke.
>>279814247This is what I imagine a redditor's anime watch list would look like. Nothing but popular / memed about series, and over time you lost interest in the "anime scene" so fewer anime per year are picked up. Have you ever watched an anime that wasn't shilled to you by a youtuber? Be honest.

>>279821571Might go for Soul Eater. Looks fun.
Regarding Erasedโฆ The character design didnโt appeal to me. I know its a dumb reason, but who cares.
>>279821960It's pretty fun. Felt repetitive / stale after a while, but still some good there.
>>279807772I'm all up to date on Black Butler's manga too but I would still recommend watching the anime. I've always thought the early manga felt sparse and empty without the content that the anime added.

Okay, dumb question. Why go back to 2006 and no further?
>>279823238prob when he started watching anime.
>>279823280You begin somewhere, true. But no one only watches current anime when starting out. Previous half or full decade figures prominently.
>>279800890 (OP)Evidentially I stopped watching anime in 2018, which is also the year I moved to Japan. Somewhat ironic considering I was a huge weab before moving here.
>>279824096Did you focus on other things or did anime lose it's appeal somehow? I was a huge weeb until I went to Japan, then suddenly I lost interest for years until recently. I don't really know why it happened.
>>279823625I effectively did.
Australian TV was the same garbage reruns of Operation Repo and Ice Road Truckers, and what I felt were low quality detective shows in CSI and NCIS. I was desperate to watch something that wasn't American Choppers on a loop or Ninja Turtles or something, something new with some feeling.
That some /v/fag friend got me onto Danganronpa in highschool made me realize that other than their pick, a whole season of 30 top notch shows was airing in Nagi no Asukara and Jinsei and Isshukan Friends the like, an overwhelming amount of good TV, and I've been keeping up with TV anime ever since.
Anything from a few years prior, Angel Beats, Kannagi, True Tears, etc, I remember seeing threads saying they were good, but never found time to watch. Maybe next decade.
I'm sure if /tv/ got my onto Colombo or Police Squad or something at the time things would be different. Anything beats Antiques Roadshow and local Quiz Shows forever.
>started watching few at 2018
huh that checks out.
What should I watch next?
>>279824517daily lives of high school boys
is 86 any good? i have had it in my backlog for a while, but every time i consider it i wonder if it's just super generic and i get turned off
>>279824558>is 86 any good?It's ludo kino.
>>279824558Hm, I liked it. Very overdramatic and sawanos music kinda influences that. Even though I've only watched 360 anime I hadn't realized I don't watch most of the big stuff and I only started watching anime in late 2019. I would like to watch most of this list so ill try to get it to around 120 by September, 73 still feels like a drop in the bucket. This list is a little odd though, it has a lot of mainstream picks then random niche picks, I don't really get the logic. Anyways Ill watch high school boys tommorow, thanks.
>9 people here watched White Album anime
1 is already too many. what are you doing with your life?
>>279824631enjoy, I think it's one of the few consistently funny anime. and thanks, i'll give 86 a chance.
i think watching almost 50 series by september is quite a challenge, and i don't know why you feel the need to hit a benchmark, just watch it at the pace that fits you.
I am weak...
I wish it went back further though.
>>279824664I have to correct myself, probably mixed it up with WA2. Looking at my records, I actually dropped WA1 after two episodes.
>>279824664If WA2 was on here sure, WA1 is pretty bad in comparison desu. Maruto is a god.
>>279824694Ah gotcha no prob, its not really a benchmark but more so a reminder because I get sidetracked with reading light novels, eroge and vidya so often nowadays that I forget to watch any anime haha. I am getting pretty burnt out on vidya and eroge so I think its a good time to go on a binge.
>>279824664eh, i had a period where i watched a lot of romance and harem series, and i was just happy to find one that wasn't primarily focused on high school.
>>279824741oh alright, fair enough. my desire to watch anime varies a lot as well, but i have been watching a lot since i got laid off a few months ago.
if you want to scratch your eroge itch while crossing something off your list, you could watch prison school. also quite funny and quite lewd (uncensored version of course), although no explicit sex scenes like in redo of healer.
>>279824821That's tough, sorry to hear that. Prison School was on my backlog, it looks pretty funny. Ill give it a shot. I think ill watch To love ru pretty soon as well, I just got done with girls und panzer and liked it alot. Redo of Healer would of benefitted as a full blown H anime I think. It being ecchi with its contents kinda worked against it unlike other ecchi series.
>>279824214I think the main thing is I hear and spoke Japanese everyday, so when I got home, I'd like to 'turn my brain off' so to speak.
It also didn't help my usual anime options were fairly limited, and Netflix usually didn't have English subs. I pirated most of my anime in the USA, but I didn't really want to risk it here.
I guess I still had an interest, and still do, but it's more of a lack of easy availability and time.
>>279824933NTA but does the jp gov crackdown on anime piracy domestically? I usually watch my anime through miru and if I like it ill buy the bd's. I assume torrenting/torrent streams arent a good idea in jp?
>>279800890 (OP)Pretty embarrassing. I had a brief spurt over a decade ago when I started watching a lot of anime, then lost the attention span to do pretty much anything (wasn't just limited to anime, I hardly play vidya or do anything else honestly). At one point, I think I had 1.5 terabytes of anime on my backlog that just kept growing. I've watched like 1-2 episodes of many of the shows on this chart, then never finished them. I mostly switched to reading a fuck ton of manga since it's a lot more passive and mindless.

>>279825020Maybe that was a poor way to describe it. With anime (or any other kind of show), I have to pay attention to the story unfold over a longer span of time (say, an episode or multiple episodes). I can progress through manga much faster, which I find makes it easier to keep myself engaged. Moreover, it's much easier to pick up and stop reading a manga whenever I want--I can read a chapter or two here and there (like in between sets when I'm working out). With anime, I feel like I have to commit to watching an episode.

the only other anime I have ever seen are the wixoss animes, a few random snippets of whatever trash used to play on cartoon network in the early 2000's, and a few ghibli movies
>>279818409Majority of these are good. You're only wasting your time if you've watched everything (like Fate/stay or Sagrada).
>>279821960>Might go for Soul Eater. Looks fun.I found Soul Eater to be a bit "eh". It also doesn't need its entire episode count.
>>279820666>Have you ever watched an anime that wasn't shilled to you by a youtuber?I have never watched a youtube video related to anime. Like 10 or 15 years ago I used to watch whatever was talked about on here, maybe those shows are reddit now idk. Nowadays I mostly watch whatever Shaft is making or if a show has an interesting premise. None of the shows on this list, with the exception of Nisemonogatri, are anime that I would consider rewatching or putting on my top 10.
>over time you lost interest in the "anime scene" so fewer anime per year are picked up. Ninkoro is looking pretty good right now. When that ends I'll probably start looking for something else that is new. I also want to see that new Madoka movie if it ever comes out.

>>279800890 (OP)>the average anon has finished less than 100 and OP's list consists of the most entry level popular normalfag shit available
>>279800890 (OP)I hate looking at anime listed like this. There's so much that still feels like yesterday when I watched them and funposted about them here that are now a decade or even almost two decades old.
When did I even get so old?
>>279800890 (OP)2009 had more shows than this.
So, what's with the blank spot?
>>279825642>has sex with my momwelp, opinion discarded!
>>279825794several, yes
but i have no clue how these anime were picked
>>279825879>Most watched anime by year, data from bgm.tv, made by egoist
>>279800890 (OP)You can tell that I got into anime in 2007, but basically stopped watching it in 2014 (I was far more interested in video games, manga, and other Japanese nerd stuff). Now I got back into it, so I'm catching up. This is actually a good list of stuff to watch, I'll keep it.

>>279800890 (OP)I hate watching seasonal anime, never unironically enjoyed any series I've watched seasonally
>>279800890 (OP)Not much, I think.
not an awful lot but I have a lot of fun watching the anime I complete
>>279826480how come? do you become disinterested in the wait between episodes or what is it?
This can only mean that 2013 was the best year for anime.
>>279827446Fuck, I missed ID invaded, Shinchou Yuusha, and Seitokai no Ichizon. Though I have 0 idea what the last one was about, so maybe it's fine.
147/227 or so.
>>279822660Ya'll need to watch SukaSuka/WorldEnd tho.
>>279808168Iโm surprised that and Tengoku Daimakyou on there, thought nobody watched those because of Disney Jail.
>>279825678Maybe people in here don't just watch the popular normalfag shit.
>>279827446late 2000s - mid 2010s was awesome. watch tatami galaxy.

Pick something for me that I haven't seen yet /a/.
Also if you've watched less than 100 just don't post. You're embarrassing yourself and should be lurking moar.
>>279828877Several good ones you have left over but go for Durarara!!
Also, don't watch Sagrada Reset. It's shite.
>>279800890 (OP)I know all of them, but a lot aren't up to my taste so I won't ever watch them

>>279800890 (OP)Are these supposed to be selections of the best anime of a particular year?
If so, whoever made the picks has to be some kind of a retard, because only a retard would like Deen's F/SN 2006.
I'm not even gonna bother reading the rest of this chart.
i guess 2016 is the start of "my internet addiction"
>more browsing on /a/
>keep watching youtube shit
>rarely watch anime/movie/series
>read manga more because it's quick and easy

There are a few I didn't tag that I've probably watched but I'm too lazy to google the Japanese title.
>2006 is stronk
>2020's is sparse as hell
Absolute millenial victory
>>279832963You can just switch to Japanese on the top language picker.
>>2798206662.5 Dimensional Seduction really wasnโt popular in America but more so elsewhere
>>279832427Same thing happened to me in 2016
>>279833156But it's in runes.
>>279835248Yes, that is what Japanese titles look like.
>>279833156Did they add that later? I recall only being able to pick between Chinese and English. At first I was confused because I read the Chinese as Japanese and recognized almost nothing.
