Cowboy Bebop had soul. Great, charismatic characters. This show, Hersch nonwithstanding, has none of it, just an attempt to catch it's atmosphere. And IMO the music of this show is overrated, it's nowhere close as good as Cowboy Bebop's soundtrack was, specially the opening and ending.

The animation is extraordinary, that's to be expected from Watanabe. Aesthetically the show is extraordinary. The action has finally gotten good, because instead of doing gay ass backflips and dancing around like an imbecile Axel is actually fighting for his life.

I really tried to watch it man. I think some of the people doing storyboards for it are a dying breed, and modern anime for all its technical skill in animation can't direct a scene to save its fucking life.
But it is so fucking bad. If I hadn't seen it for myself I would've dismissed all the posts about it as being the sort of straw man only a /pol/ schizo can invent out of thin air. But it is actually, truly, that bad.

It’s extremely inconsistent and many episodes are wild goose chases. The first half of the show after the first episode was a complete slog and the main thing carrying it now is the good animation and tension. I usually watch a show like this on toonami with /co/ in their threads but I’ve honestly resorted to just recording it and watching it later.
