Seriously as a new anime fan how exactly are you supposed to go back to watch all the classics (which are often 50+ episode affairs), plus OVAs and movies, AND keep up with new releases?
That's not even to mention all the 500+ episodes shounen in the backlog too.
It's simply an unreasonable amount, especially if you're just getting into anime.

lucky for you, 99% of anime is ignorable slop
"catching up" with anime makes no sense unless you have terminal autism

Watch what you want and don't think you need to watch everything.
>you're just getting into anime
Even if you got into anime in the 90s there'd still have been an unimaginable amount of anime. You're going to get this kind of feeling getting into any medium at basically any time that wasn't the very beginning.

There aren't a lot of genuine classics. Most of it is crap.

Protip: don't finish series that you don't enjoy (this should happen often). It is embarrassing how often you come across people saying they didn't like a series. Why the FUCK did you watch every single episode then??

In my opinion, you are retarded if you have ever rated a series lower than 6/10

There's never been enough time to watch everything but if you got in back in the 90s it was definitely a lot easier to catch up on the benchmark of what most would consider required watching.
There's literally a thread up on the catalog right now about this >>279800890 that only goes as far back as 2006 yet it still looks ridiculous.

I've been watching anime since the 90s and have only seen like 30 of the ones on that chart because it's mostly normalfag shit.

In that case I wouldnt watch it at all. Even anime with best production quality is coded for wagies, otaku and nprmalfags, which ruins the underlying message of the show. There is always some pretentious garbage shoved in there to ruin the show.

It's more interesting that a new fan could actually watch every anime movie and ova if he were so inclined. But yes with tv there's too much to "catch up" completely same as any other medium.

>AND keep up with new releases?
Easy, by only watching only new shit on streaming services for a quick dopamine fix and calling anything older than 2015 boomer shit. Much like current /a/ is like.

Try watching more than a handful of episodes each day.
There aren't that many old series out there, watching everything is absolutely feasible. OVA and movies are finished in no time.
>all the 500+ episodes shounen
Those don't exist. Hokuto no Ken, Saint Seiya, Yu Yu Hakusho or Tiger Mask are only 100 episodes and among the longest that exist.

>There's never been enough time to watch everything
Just a couple years ago the total amount of anime that existed back then could be watched in ~30 years of casual 1 cour per day regime, which is manageable even with full time job if you have no other hobbies.
That estimation assumes that every episode is 24 minutes long and includes all the shit nobody cares about, kodomo edutainment, porn, all demographics and genres, translated and not, including lost media.
Currently the number almost doubled to watching EVERYTHING in ~30 years one would have to watch 2 cours per day every day, leaving no time for sleep or job, but still technically possible for a neet.

Maybe 20 years ago, and that's being generous.
