There is also such things as hardcore sci fi where the authors use actual physics to explain phenomena in their works. this approach is a double edged sword because:

It shows that the author tried too hard to appear knowledgeable without doing some actual work in studying.
Its akin to the star wars prequels trying to explain one subjects domain of the force by the infamous midichlorians (or whatever they are called). until that point most people didnt gave a fuck on why some have talent to use the force and some others dont. It tried to explain something that didnt needed to be explained.
So, the "explanation" of the heat and the gravity came as a lame attempt to appear "physics related" when in reality is just technobabble
