Takoha has finally learned the truth about Souboutei's origins and the true nature of the horrors within.
Souboutei's creator, Sakamaki Deido, has dominated the alien invaders through sheer force of will (read: autism) 90 years ago, and is the one who created the gates that connect to their planet, the possessing paintings.
Meanwhile, Shino has successfully coaxed Rokurou into becoming another possession victim, without Takoha around to Talk no Jutsu him the situation looks extremely dire, but maybe not all hope is lost.

I love the contrast between the Invaders and Grandpa. Grandpa didn't understand things like emotions or feelings at first so he was perfectly content to let the Invaders drain his body away until he was near death before Seiichi and the rest of his flight arrived, which ended up teaching him love and the rage needed to defend those he cares about. Meanwhile it's pretty clear the Invaders have always held the ability to understand complex responses like malice or glee from ruining the lives of others to a degree - even if they might not understand the full context behind HOW it happens, they still clearly take a cruel satisfaction from destroying the souls of those they invade.
