>>279896496I don't think Aka wrote ONK's ending out of spite. I think he wanted to be poetic, and rhyme Aqua's fate with Ai's fate. Ai's death was a huge shock, and kicked the story off. Aqua's death was a huge shock, and ended the story. He clearly came up with that ending in the beginning, when he decided to kill Ai off. A mystery is crafted backwards, after all. He wanted Oshi no Ko to be a story of two children, the light side who wants to continue Ai's legacy, and the dark side who wants to avenge her and self-destructs in the end. The problem is, as the story became more and more popular, it grew in size, and suddenly, the characters outpaced what he intended for them. The good kid was now falling into darkness, and the bad kid was the hero, this had to happen to keep shit interesting. We even ended up dabbling in incest for a bit, that's how lost Aka was in his Jenga tower of character development. But he didn't want to change the ending; he still wanted that rhyme, and that was his fatal error. He hoped to shock the audience in a good way, but didn't see the bigger picture. I wonder if he would be willing to add some material to the anime adaptation, which is supposedly coming in 2026, to fix shit up a bit.
