The cabin fight is fine except for the kid being inside the cabin. It just reminds me of that shitpost of garou saving a bus full of disabled children and saying "grrr I'm a monster." Little acts like in these chapters where he just tells some bullies to fuck off are more in character than him being a protector. That is to say, I enjoyed the cabin fight itself but I didn't like what it did to Garou's character

Sure, but are the lower ranks really worth talking about in the context of the story?
The only relevant ones are Sweet Mask (sandbagging), Atomic's disciples (gatekept, also probably not that relevant), Fubuki (probably not comparable to any of the S-class), and Saitama (Saitama).
The other heroes either exist to get their asses kicked, or fight irrelevant threats that we don't really need to care about. It's not really worth comparing them to the major players.

I think it's something that Saitama touches on later, basically the fact is that Garou is someone who has a very ideal vision of what a hero and monster should be. A monster is allowed to be deceitful, unfair, evil because they're well, a monster. However, a hero has to be noble and righteous and fair, despite how much of a disadvantage that puts them against monsters. That's why he's upset with Bang and Blast launching a suprise attack on him, because deep down he thinks it's befitting of a hero. It's also why later on he tells the heroes to stand up and challenge him again, or else he'll kill the kid. And it's why he has a breakdown when he learns that Saitama isn't fighting for some noble, lofty ideal but just doing it as a hobby.
