The sad part is that the author didn't even have to resort to this copout.
She could have just had Gyutaro chop off Inosuke's hand (the one holding Daki's head) and it would have created the same level of tension and drama.
It would have put Inosuke out of the fight until one of Tengen's wives could patch him up while also ensuring stakes and showing just how much personal cost these fights result in for our heroes.

I did like See Through World but that was pretty random.

I haven't read this in a while so I might be forgetting some stuff, but off the top of my head, things I would consider to be an asspull are:

- Tanjiro pulling out the hinokami kagura for the first time against Rui
- Inosuke adjusting his internal organs to avoid being fatally wounded by Gyuutaro
- Muichiro acquiring the Mark vs Gyokko
- Nezuko surviving being out in the sun at the end of the SSV arc
- Kanao pulling out an eye hax ability to finish Douma off
- Everything involving the see-through world
- The myriad of poisons and debuffs afflicted on Muzan
- Demon King Tanjiro being taken out of this state because of Nezuko's intervention

And although these next ones aren't asspulls, they sort of sit in the same realm of making the progression and outcome feel unsatisfying (in my opinion):

- Shinobu letting herself be consumed by Douma to poison him
- Akaza offing himself to give Tanjiro and Giyuu the victory
- Koku allowing himself to be defeated in his fight against the Pillars

Most of these stem from the fact that the writer wanted a certain outcome to happen (the good characters to win) but couldn't think of a natural way for them to achieve that victory. The initial hinokami kagura from Tanjiro is acceptable though because Rui deflects that asspull with an asspull of his own by revealing he had cut his own head off, which I think works. Ultimately, I think it comes down to who is performing the asspull that determines if it feels "right" or not. if the good guys, the characters we follow, get the asspull, then it can feel unexpected or unearned because we've followed their journey up to this point and generally had no idea that they could do the thing that they're now doing. At least with the demons, it makes sense that they would be able to do random unexpected things because at the point of facing them, we have no idea what their abilities are to begin with.

It's another case of "Good guy asspull = bad, bad guy asspull = good"

It's been a while since I've read it, but how was the poison used against Muzan an asspull? Poison had always been a thing for Tamayo and Shinobu and considering Tamayo knew his abilities and it was specifically crafted to fuck him over, it makes sense that it would have a bunch of different effects.

I dropped it around the Swordsmith Village because I noticed an irritating pattern and the story was too repetitive and predictable to a fault. I came back for the final arc hoping it would get better, and the asspulls were just too much for me to handle.
>zenitsu gets over his issues from a letter off-screen and his fight with kaigaku is rushed where the actual fight ends in chapter and a half because the author had to infodump on the contents of the letter and establish kaigaku as a character because he had like 10 panels of screentime beforehand
>the forced connection between douma and inosuke because he needs an emotional stake in the fight because kanao isn't enough
>the forced whitewashing akaza gets after his death through douma (achshually he never killed any women). this has no impact when you realize akaza doesn't interact with a single female character in the entire series
>the poison used on muzan retroactively makes shinobu look like a retarded cunt. why not inject a dose of that on douma and watch him melt? muzan the granddaddy of demons couldn't shake that shit off, there was no need for her to kill herself other than the author wanting a tragic emotional beat

The problem isn't that Tamayo used poison, it's how it was executed. Muzan was so ridiculously overpowered that the author had to start nerfing him mid-fight with surprise debuffs and handing out free buffs to the heroes like Oprah handing everyone a new car. Every time things got bad, suddenly Muzan has another weakness, and the good guys magically survive because of a new trick. It turns what could've been a tense, earned final battle into a string of narrative "just trust me bro" moments.

These effects come out after the poison is already in play, retroactively justified as if it was all part of a genius plan. That's the definition of an asspull. It's not about whether poison was "a thing", it's about how sloppily it was used to patch an unwinnable scenario.

Honestly, a single panel during the Hashira Training arc with Tamayo handing over a labeled vial saying, "here, I made 3 samples, but this one is for Muzan, I added some side effects to it" would've solved 80% of the bullshit.
