Question for the thread (not sure if this has been asked before). If you guys had to adapt one Junji Ito story into a feature-length movie, which would it be? you're free to tweak or expand on the original concept to make it work better if you want.

Personally I think Remina has enough to make a full movie, plus it strikes a balance of being weird but not too weird for a mainstream audience.

Honestly for me it reads as the sort of a casual kind of "child abuse" that most people can relate to. Just having a dirty unkempt home, bullying from your fellows, and the distant parental figure that feels more like an animal you need to coexist next rather than a person.
The hyperfocus on grease is a neat thematic tie-in into everything.

Also works on just a straight up horror angle.

Mmm, maybe not apocalyptic. It wasn't a disastrous general event, but rather one that focused on rapists, bank robbers, and murderers (killing animals counts too).
The problem would be the latter. I suppose the malice focuses on people who kill animals for no reason other than sustenance. If so, then many hunters will die. I suppose insects don't count, or the human population would perish in the first few days at most.
