>tfw your favorite series is normie-proof
>barely anyone in the west cared when the anime was fresh
>no one knows about it now
>the mangas english release isn't even caught up to the anime
>even a popular youtuber making a video on it couldn't breathe life in to the series
Studio Madhouse will make Kaiji part 3 eventually and that will revive the series... Right? I've waited over a decade so it's coming soon, r-right guys? Please, the only animation for Minefield Mahjong is from fucking pachinko machines.

What series are you a big fan of, that has been sidelined or ignored over the years?

My favorite thing about Kaiji is that they knew it was a niche series and released the English blurays sub-only. Then after Squid Game happened, they re-released it with a dub hoping normalfags would care (they didn't). Probably the only time a dub was ever appended to a Bluray release.

Normies are watching One Piece, MHA and Solo Leveling. Anything that hasn't aired in a decade that isn't Ghibli is unknown to many.

If its got merch at hot topic it's normie, if it doesn't it's not.
>>279997605
I honestly thought Squid Game would renew western interest in Kaiji. Especially since the creator listed Kaiji is a direct inspiration, cribbed the general outline of part 1, and copied the steal beam crossing beat for beat.

Kaiji's pretty popular OP, just moreso for older audiences. The dudes look funny and FKMT series are all either about non-magical (technically) gambling or having a mid-life crisis, which I don't think appeals to the kids as much. Certainly didn't to me until I was at least in my 20s

Most mentions of 2000s shoujo anime on this site are by me and they rarely get any replies. I tried to get people to talk about Yucie for about a decade and recently I've been mentioning Comet-san.

Wasn't the anime mostly made to promote the live-action movies? We didn't get season 3 when they made Final Game, so I wouldn't keep my hopes up.

Also I wish we got the latter 2/3rds of Akagi animated (+Ten), seeing Washizu going through literal hell complete with music and voice acting would be pure kino.

Who the fuck cares, nigger? FKMT community is thriving and big, you don't need another fucking anime of his most mainstream series.

How about reading one of the dozens of FKMT manga instead of trying to appeal to normies? Hell, read the Foreman spinoff, it's even better.

Akagi is a series that shouldn't work but it does, in anime (I'd say even in pretty much every work of fiction), the dude that's cooler than the protagonist but isn't the protagonist always looks like he'd be a good lead, but actually isn't; they generally have this mysterious aura that disappears if you try to elaborate on it.
He also just shows up, tells people he's gonna blow them the fuck out, and does. Again, on the surface, this seems like it'd be boring, but his methods are so interesting that you're on the edge of your seat not despite knowing he'll win, but BECAUSE you know he'll win, you're just wondering how

Because you're not really following him, you don't hear his thoughts or anything. You're an onlooker, just like the people around him.
He's basically that same cool side character, except we just keep seeing the scenes he's in or scenes from others talking about how awesome he is.
In a way, he's a bit like Superman too, since we see other more vulnerable characters in trouble and we're waiting for Akagi to swoop in and save them. He's effectively invulnerable and unstoppable, but he makes change happen around him and affects others in fun and interesting ways.
Then you add on the mystery of how he plans to win or how he won and it all comes together pretty well.

They didn't adapt what was left of Toriko in the anime.
Toriko was charming, even if it had retarded levels of power-scaling and sizes.

It got 3 video games for handhelds,
and then Toriko appeared in J-Stars Victory Vs,
but J-Stars was only relevant when it was new.

J-stars was a stiff as fuck arena fighter,
and it seems they've been using it as a base for many arena fighters.

It was cool to play as Toriko and Zebra even if the game was trash.

Toriko Gourmet survival 1 was an awesome game,
I played it when I was kind getting the hang of learning Japanese.
So if I made progress it felt good.

It doesn't have an English patch like the One Piece PSP game,
so you can only find relevant info about it in Japanese.

The author got arrested for having sex with a prostitute, but she was underage.
He has done some one-shot mangas since, I think, but not series with enough length to care.

I know this is basically just an FKMT appreciation thread, but Iโ€™ll throw in Usogui
Its kind of funny, because even tho stuff like Kaiji is definitely way more niche in the presentation and story telling than Usogui, someone could argue that Kaiji is more for normies solely based on the fact it has an actual English distribution.
I think I read once that itโ€™s something like how the industry isnโ€™t oblivious to online scanlation sites, and because Usogui was never translated the only place to read it was online. But now, since itโ€™s been so long, thereโ€™s no value in making English volumes since everyone who might have wanted to read it in English already has!

Maybe Usogui's length plays against it? Kaiji is more neatly divided into parts.

I'd see Usogui sell a lot more than Kaiji though, anime aside. Kaiji part 1 looks VERY rough, it's the old school FKMT style.
