Is that proven to actually work? It feels like in japan people already the manga/LN anyway, it's the reason why anime even happen. And in the west most people can't be bothered to read a manga. Surely they generate SOME money, because otherwise publishing (and animation) wouldn't be profitable and no one would do it. And when it comes to the amount they generate, manga wins because it creates a constant and reliable stream of income, like a live service, whereas an anime is a big one-off payment. Furthermore, manga sales go directly into the publisher's pockets, whereas in anime's case they have to share the profit with middlemen as represented by TV channels. Because the publisher holds the IP in 90% of the cases, it's easy to see why they see manga as much more important.

I disagree. They gutted the manga to make the story as self-contained as possible. The ending felt more satisfying and conclusive than that of most originals these days. If you told me that the entire manga was adapted, I would've believed it.
