I just realised something.
Pikachu is the “electric mouse pokemon”, thats what it says in the pokedex.
That makes sense for us, but there are no mice in the pokemon universe, so that wouldn’t make any sense to somebody in Pokeworld.

Gen1 pokédex also mentions elephants and real countries. Also, Surge is called "The Lightning American".

Surge is now The Lightning Unovan, the elephants were replaced by Copperajah and those countries are now just "faraway lands".
