This series really went to shit after the first one huh? I'm watching for the first time after GQuacks and Zeta fucking blows

You can also see this in Zeta. There's a lot of interesting stuff in there. Emma and Reccoa, Char and Haman... and it's all buried under an avalanche of terrible dragged-out Tomino plot. Of course there's the obligatory studio meddling as well, and the other writers are probably equally responsible.

I've never watched anything by Tomino, should I start with Mobile Suit Gundam are what are his best/must watch works?

FilteredNot really, as someone who just wrapped up 0079 and started Zeta it's jarring how much of a whiplash it is to go back to White Base's starting state but instead of that crew and Char's forces you get an even more disorganized and retarded party than the former and a straight-up cartoonishly evil pack of assholes on the other. Kamille's at least an entertaining sperg but I can tell his growth won't nearly feel as satisfying as Amuro's. If I didn't know the movies fucked with so much I'd watch them instead to get to CCA faster.

Ok so I'm not sure if I'm remembering properly bu the first episode had kamille going apeshit because he got called a girl and went on to steal something right?

I like the overarching narrative of Zeta but the day to day is whack. A lot of running around back and forth where it feels like there is no progress in the war. Then suddenly it all gets resolved in 2-3 episodes. It's also funny that despite the show looking better the action is way way stiffer than 0079, and most "battles" are just floating around shooting at each other.

Just watch the original then move on to G and Wing

Yeah, I like Zeta, I like Kamille more than Amuro and making Char the second MC was a 180 IQ move but the more time passes the more I'm convinced that the original series is the best.
I think Zeta has some high highs but overall it's not as good, the fights in particular have way worse choreography, which is kind of shocking in hindsight.
