Having the game be an MMO wouldn't have been the best approach in my opinion. I have nothing against turn-based RPGs, but having it be more action focused would be more fitting.
I know people like to bring up Guilty Gear, but even that series has lost it's edge.

It was definitely because of WoW. They probably wanted an equivalent in the Asian markets and picked Bastard! as the IP based on it due to factors like the crowd's age and it being fantasy. I do wish they released more than just screenshots after cancelling it. 4 years is more than enough for a lot to be made.

FF11 was part of the reason too, and Hagi has done artwork for the game several times. It's disappointing that Bastard hasn't much luck with video games. A really good one could elevate it's popularity.
