My major problem with Netori is that Japan rarely sells it straight. It’s always the same bullshit: “stealing” from loveless, virgin relationship. You’ll never get Netori with a girl in a happy loving relationship. It just doesn’t happen, unless it’s mindbreak porn. The ONLY true example I can think of is a web novel that turned into a VN, God’s Game; a happily-married woman and while she is put into a high level of duress she’s not raped or broken. Another example of NTR Isekai, but that is SO watered-down that it only barely qualifies at Netori.

I think the problem stems from Japan’s ABSOLUTELY requirement for moral purity in protagonists. Since Netori is the guy (MC) doing the stealing he’s not allowed to actually to do anything morally bad to pull apart a happy relationship, which then makes the Netori proposition difficult so they inevitably chicken out and make it an unhappy relationship in which girl never loved the other guy to begin with. It’s super disapointing and cheap.
