I agree that is dumb but it's about the only example I can think of. One fuckup isn't going to torpedo his manga for me. The ending also wasn't my taste but the rest of it is a great action adventure.

I wonder if that is established, and demonstrated, fact in the novel or is it just the Itoh's interpretation of his character? Was the save and the line about all life being worth something adapted faithfully, or was it based on interpretation of character, or was it made up entirely? I have heard anons say that Makura died earlier on in the original novel yet Itoh decided to have her live and play a central role in the manga, which earns him a lot of points if you ask me (at least from my perspective as a mango enjoyed who hasn't read the novel).

I don't really get why he does this stuff on extra pages like this, I know a lot of otakuish mangaka do this stream-of-conciousness type of blabber. I would say that rather than "doesn't understand his own fucking manga or characters" in this particular case he's created alternate realities since nothing in the manga proper even slightly suggests what he writes in that page. He does come across as quite whimsical.

It's too gorey, the art is too good, the ceatures are unusual (imagine 3D Kumbhira lmao) and it's predicated on info-dumps about genetics and Aztec/Mayan civilization.
