DESTROY
md5: ec35c6e9d836c61777a2fd9a7138470a🔍
Gather 'round ArtCHADS, Exorcisters and Paranormal Enjoyers, here be volume 16 of Souboutei!
Izu Oujin & Koremitsu have ENTERED the fray, adding yet another fearsome foe to the villains' side, what's more, it turns out Oujin is the Kirita sisters' father and a legendary exorcist, but why would such a person work with Souboutei?
As Rokurou hangs on to dear life after being nearly headshotted, our HEROES are finally all together again, the Kirita sisters are reunited as well and after an intense pokemon fight, Kikuyo is finally put the rest, but not before leaving her dwelling pupils to her little sisters as a parting gift.
As the party recovers, Deido keeps painting, unaware of some plan brewing on the invaders' side, we're clearly entering the last stretch here, which is all the more important to yet again remember why we're here in the first place, that's right:
SOUBOUTEI MUST BE DESTROYED!

That happens alot. My cousins on my mom's side were skinny as fuck and small yet by the time they were around 14-16 they were 184 cm(SEA too btw). This was also barring their diet because at one point, they had to conserve food. Today their height is 191cm. Some people just GROW.

Also it just gets me that Fujita just spouts all this American trivia just for his characters backgrounds. Not a lot of mangaka put all the emphasis on their foreign character counterparts.

Fujita always makes manga that start off well then become mediocre or bad.

this and karakuri circus and the one about fairytales show this pattern , and his short manga like black museum springald and the one about the crazy owl also show this pattern since they're short and great.

the exception is ushio and tora which is ok from start to finish.

Yeah but then he always land the ending well which is something even the most popular manga lacked the ability to do, so I'll take it. Besides even at the most mediocre part of his manga there are still fun shits to see.
Black Museum is different because its just a different mish mash of tales, so it's virtually fumble to fell and so is that other one shot manga. Souboutei on the other hand I actually enjoyed more than Karakuri Circus from my re-read, its definitely more concise and to the point than the circus shenanigans Masaru got in KC. I'd say Fujita's biggest fault is overdoing expositions a bit, everyone has to explain things which I can think some people won't like. Also his romance subplot is always subpar.
Well at least there hasn't been any major deaths in Souboutei so far. Oh god Karakuri Circus was ruthless in killing of its casts like nothing.

You might be on to something. Browsing his deviantart, the character Takoha must be a direct homage to his friend, maybe even his eccentric personality. He even signs his work with his name. The only "bad" part in KC is the part after the first 3 volumes and before Narumi shows up in France, like crazy tiger and shit, that was the most boring part. The village arc was crizitied a lot but I fond it pretty funny with BIG SUCCESS and harem shit
Gekkou Jourei on the other hand was literally cancelled, so the last arc was shit, Fujita still managed to make the most of it. The part when Gekkou used his revival onigiri on an individual and how Engekibou decided to use her fingers are genuinelyamazing, it's just that the final villain sucks. I mean his short series are good but Fujita needs a long run manga to truly show his story writing talents

Time and Math is a little wonky here
He's been serving Souboutei for 88 years
And he just turned 103 years old
If it were linear time it means he met Deido when he was 15 y.o.
But most probably it means he met Deido as an adult during/after training and establishing his spiritual school.
After that, time is all blurry while inside and outside the mansion
Maybe he means 103 years old in outside time but 88 years in service counting stretchy inside time and normal outside time as a continuum

I don't think Deido would recall Oujin as a child if he didn't meet Oujin as a child.

How can one man be so wrong? It's the middle part that Fujita has trouble with since both his beginnings and endings are stellar. And Karakuri Circus was his most ambitious work to date and it's a wonder he still managed to finish it off properly despite the complex structure and publication issues.

Ushio and Tora is a very simple story, so of course it's okay but it really pales compared to what follows.

Well, Fujita's 61 already. But his different set of aesthetics and interests is what makes him so appealing. Circus, theater, myth and horror stories, all kind of different aspects of both Western and Japanese culture, he takes something from it and blends together into a very unique kind of works.
