Did I get baited? I watched the opening and thought that it looked ok, but when I watched the anime it was full CG. The weirdest part is that pictures and posters inside the series are in traditional animation, I don't get it, what was the point of making it fully CGI when they could just make it look good? I can barely take it seriously because of the animation

Look. This franchise is built around a lot of band performance scenes, and keeping the quality consistent with hand drawn animation when there's that many is difficult. Only Kyoani can pull it off, and it's even hard for them since they did avoid doing too many band performance scenes in K-On. Doing full 3D animation properly is a big investment, and Toei decided it was worth it for Girls Band Cry. Having good full CG animation is a better alternative to what some other anime do which is using CGI for cost cutting measures, resulting in jarring transitions between 2D and 3D, and the 3D animation is bad.

nah, the project was announced years ago and the first ever visual they dropped was this MV
even by that point bandori/ll should've already tipped everyone that it's industry standard for idol/band anime to rely heavily on CGI, much like mecha
I do agree it's weird promotional pictures don't use the models at all when toei flexing is one of its main selling points
