Here in South America it's quite common for anime fans to shit on One Piece, so I don't think it's just an Anglo-American thing. I've also been into the Spain ‘'fanbase’' and I've seen the same dumb criticisms being repeated constantly, so I don't think Europeans really appreciate One Piece, even if someone tells me that the French or Italians truly like it.
