>Angel's Egg.
Vapid, meaningless slop from an incompetent fraud director. A litmus test for media-illiterate pseuds.
>Gits
Good sci-fi manga that a fraud director has tried, but failed to turn into pretentious slop.
>Patlabor
Haven't seen it, but it's the same fraud, so probably like Gits.

>Lain and Haibane.
Decent, but literally pretentious, as in, pretending to be more than it is.

>Ergo Proxy.
When 90 IQ writers try to be pretentious. Comically low-quality.

>Monster.
Baby's first psychological drama, 14-year-old target audience. Inferior to Death Note.

>Texhnolyze
Baby's first Tarkovsky rip-off, 18-year-old target audience. Also a litmus test for media-illiterate pseuds.

>Umineko
It's a fucking saturday morning cartoon, very fun at that, takes a very special kind of retard to interpret it as a pseud-core show.

You can print this post out and magnet it to your fridge, it's the most intelligent evaluation of these shows you'll ever see in your life (whether you're able to appreciate it or not).

no, it's just a bad anime.
lain game that came out right after shows that there actually was an actual story to tell with actual characters and that anime is simply a badly executed attempt. the plot (if there was any in the anime) is a bit different in the game (more like a drama cd really), as it is a different iteration, not a retelling. highly recommend. it can be played in the browser port.

They enjoy their lives as Haibane, the town exists for them to live comfortably.

The show then deals with her spiraling downwards until she's able to overcome her grief.
The show then deals with Reki's suffering in silence as she is unable to remember her coccoon dream and is doomed to never take flight herself and how Rakka and the other Haibane can help her.

Don't lump Frieren and Evangelion together, Frieren is actually good.

Have you ever felt mildly irritated that people didn't like a manga because "it was weird" and not understanding what it was about?

I'll never forget my experience with Texhnolyze. I went in only recognizing Yoshii from seeing him posted here over the years and I created this massive expectation for myself that his character arc is going to lead to some incredible payoff. Then for like 11-12 episodes his chaotic nature only further increases these expectations of something amazing that is going to happen. Then he dies. In the least spectacular way possible. And all the chaos he stirred fizzles out, and the show quite literally forgets about him and moves on. So I watched one episode after another in disbelief until I accepted that no explanation is coming. That was it. That's what all the fuss was about - absolutley nothing.

And then the fucking outside episodes arrive.

I basically got edged by a fucking anime.

Experiences linke this are why I don't watch anime, movies or shows, read literature or play video games anymore unless I get to read full plot spoilers and peek at the ending beforehand.

I see people post about how these shows are 2deep4u with fans who say "you didn't get it" more than I ever see the fans doing that. They're just good shows. People can overanalyse anything, Lain and Monster especially just straight up show you what they're about because it's more of a "vibe" and the actual fucking plot than some Reddit philosophy essay.

It's more visually profound in everyway. Westoids are just insecure because their first anime/manga ended up being one of the best and they need to justify wasting their lives watching 300 more anime after it.

Well it's percieved as one. contr/a/rians would rather pretend to like josei than admit their favourite anime can be pieced together on a meme 3x3. That's why this board pretends to not like Gurren Lagann or LOGH and instead digs up some WMT slop.

Or maybe people like different things than you. It is very unlikely that the very first thing you watch or read in a medium will be your favorite later. If you do go on to watch 300 or more anime you'll likely find something that resonates with you and it might not be on /a/ or reddit's spoonfeed charts.

I haven't seen logh but I did hate gurren lagann. They killed off way too many characters and had the audacity to leave rossiu alive. It could have been good without the character deaths but alas all things considered it was perhaps a 2/10.

I don't have a PhD in theology, but I understood the visual allegories. I was unsurprised to learn that Oshii was at one point a seminarian. But the substance of Angel Egg leaves a lot to be desired. Oshii has a long personal history of theological confusion, so it is what it is. Same with GitS, which I appreciate visually and in it's own spiritual terms despite lacking theological sophistication. What I like the most about GitS was how it became the de facto face of the franchise despite all of Shirow Masamune's kicking and screaming, this will never not be funny to me.

Depends on what you mean by that. It doesn't have real world religious symbolism. But it does something that Evangelion doesn't dare, which is to portray the antagonists as congenitally evil beings. And there is a higher sense of religiosity in this very simple aspect of the anime than anything Evagelion tries to pull with hollow religious symbols.
