How do you deal with boring anime?

Do you skip the parts you think are boring? Speed them up? Put it on in the background? Drop the series? Power through?

Have you been disappointed with sticking through a boring anime? Or felt rewarded for sticking with it

Why would you watch something you aren't enjoying? Are you an idiot?

Very few anime are 100% engaging 100% of the time, even stuff that starts out good has a habit of hitting a slump a dozen episodes in

This anon has reached enlightenment.

The best part is that this still works if you drop it early.

You tell me. I've been watching Votoms after it was sold to me as "Gundam, but manlier and more realistic". I'm currently in Space 'Nam and it's turning into a slog. It's not bad, but it's been a lot more by-the-numbers than the other /m/ classics like Macross or Gundam.

Part of me wants to move on, part of me is holding out that it might surprise me in the second half with some twist, since it was recommended so strongly to me. It's not bad enough to be an insta-drop, but it's not interesting to the point where I'll just instantly put on the next episode without thinking.

I don't think it's that uncommon to end up like this halfway through a series, especially older, longer ones. Maybe it's less common nowadays where everything is about 12-13 episodes, so even if you're not ride-or-die it doesn't take much to either see where it ends or just drop it without worrying much.

I drop it. I don't have fomo and don't care about how much someone hypes something up.
The most i have ever tried was Shinsekai Yori because my friend loves it, but i dropped it 3 times always around the time skip and even up until then it's a slog.

Gintama's first 20 or so episodes definitely were bit of a slog but after that it just clicked, meaning yeah I was rewarded with one of the best comedy all time

3ep rule exists for a reason anon
if somethin hasn't grabbed your attention in ~60min it's not worth burning any more time on

this extends to longer shows that fall off hard, too - if I find myself not looking forward to the next episode when the weekend rolld around, or looking for excuses not to wartch it, fucking drop that shit in a heartbeat

just move on, there's effectively infinite other things to watch like Boku no Pico

I've had series that I found incredibly frustrating to watch/read the first time around for whatever reason and dropped early on without a second thought. Only to give them another shot some time later and suddenly having them be one of my favorites of that year.

I think sometimes series just don't click for very circumstantial reasons you're often not fully aware of. Moreso than powering through, if there's still something about the premise/concept/characters that interests you giving it another shot down the line can help. Sometimes it's just unsalvageable shit, but it's a funny feeling when something you though you disliked just clicks in place.
