The Ebi roll episode is the last one I remember watching. Fun show, Tonegawa is a great character. None of the spin offs were written by FKMT though, right? How is the Ichijo one?

The Ichijou spinoff is also pretty great. I feel like they all favor different demographics, Ichijou's is the 20 year olds trying to make it with no money, working part time jobs and such. It has lots of funny jokes and moment that will especially resonate with them while also remaining efficient with others.
Also it's actually more than just a comedy with life lessons and self reflection, because of its final arc. It's possible Hanchou and Tonegawa are headed in similar directions, but we'll see then.

Here's the thing, the image these villains built in their respective death games doesn't really carry as much value as what these comfy and insightful adult SoL manga.

The foreman manga shows foreman acting pretty out of character, he's a smart and even admirable man in it. But that's necessary.

I tried watching Tonegawa's show, but I'm disappointed it went really into the office sitcom instead of the brutality of making death games for a sick old man. I still want my Kaiji-esque Better Call Saul

I'm not OP but I think it's fine for this to be a sort of FKMT general, featuring Tonegawa. Second season of Kaiji is good, but the second half does spend a long time on its final gamble and you may or may not like it for that. I thought it would bother my friend but he loved it. I think you should just push through the episodes or read the manga. Then watch or read Akagi.
