I remember even as a kid when I had little to no interest in anime I would see Haruhi everywhere online. I only watched it for the first time a couple years ago, so without the nostalgia glasses on I can say it was okay, I don't really get what about it made it so popular. I know the novels cover a lot more than what's in the anime though so maybe that's why I don't get what's so great about it. Endless Eight must have been the event of a lifetime for people watching as it aired though. I can only imagine the endless discussion and speculation for months about wtf was going on.
