This is an interesting scene because it shows how affable Asuka can be beyond her abrasive attitude. She’s just trying to tease Shinji and joke around with him, and he’s being a faggot about it. The people in Shinji’s life aren’t even that difficult to deal with, but they’re made to seem more complicated than they really are because you’re stuck in his perspective.
