No the work and experience should be considered as a whole. You can hate the ending though there is nothing wrong with that.

Hating endings is kinda a funny thing, because for some reason it depends on the person. I take it super seriously, but people like my parents don't. In general I think it depends on how seriously they take fiction. My parents' reaction to a bad ending in films tends to be either "huh that was weird/interesting, good show/film though". Meanwhile I tend to go "what a shitty fucking ending it ruined everything and I wasted my time".
