Translated Commentary for Episode 1 from Director Oota Masahiko (Mitsugo Biyori ~2-ransei~):

* While reading the manga, I got to the Fruit Basket scene and immediately thought it could be expanded upon. During this, I imagined the opening battle of the film Gladiator. "Classmates killing each other?" I thought, drawing inspiration from Battle Royale.

* Verdi's Requiem (The Day of Wrath) played in my head. But, Classical music in Mitsudomoe?! Thought it served as a nice little surprise and the storyboard was drawn made with it in mind.

* As for animation, I drew the storyboard with Satou Toshiyuki in mind aswell. Eventually, he put together a result that was far beyond my imagination. I oblige him.

* For the adaptation, the beginning scene with Yabecchi's admission was added to serve as a contrast of the Fruits Basket scene. Additionally, the Kanji-stroke subtitles were requested by Daume President Mr. Nishioka. Pretty stylish suggestion.

* The CG used for the Fruits Basket explaination scene was made to resemble the eerie reenactment CGs used for murder
scenes on the news.

* Since the goal of the first episode was to establish the triplets, I deliberately directed Chiba and the other sub characters in a way
that they wouldn't stand out

* In the following scene after Yabecchi gets hit in the crotch, the camera pans to the sky with crows flying over the school. After that, it was decided that this would be the way to depict scenes that would otherwise be too poor to display.

* During the climax where the class chants "Chikubi!" I ordered Mr. Misawa to make the music emotionally moving. Since the song was made to fit the storyboard length its addition was perfect

* For this episode, I went in with the thought "No matter how raunchy they are, I'm not running away!" Therefore, I didn't shy away from including the snot and pee jokes. Though, personally, I love the jokes of the early chapters.

* In the urine section, Oota's biggest influence came from Sam Raimi's Evil Dead II with the goal to match its direction style. Though he's fine with this type of comedy, the online response that typically frowns upon these things was unexpectedly sound.

* For the cicada chapter, the star that shot above the Marui household was made to resemble the shot in the film Jaws.

* In general, this episode was a challenge to broadcast.

* In the original work, Matsuoka was just a normal team member but was later adapted to match her current manga personality.

* During auditions, I wondered if it was possible for a male to play as Chiba so I initially tried using men while women were in the preliminaries. In the end, we went with the feminine-looking Yamato to play the role.

* On the topic of Chiba, his theme song means "An Insatiable Search of Lust" (https://youtu.be/iQeAM95_jL4?feature=shared) and was composed with reference to the themes of "Kawaguchi Hiroshi's Exploration"/"S.W.A.T. (Both shows use the same OP: https://youtu.be/4MqRdOaUsGU?feature=shared) Now, when she appears, she always goes "Donkutsu, Donkutsu (Drum beating sounds)" in an Itako-like manner.

* And, as for Soujirou, we adopted the old-fashioned anime outlines to differentiate him from different characters. This was especially a challenge since today's animators aren't used to drawing such outlines. Even if the original drawing was given thick outlines, the animated ones would come off as thin. But, thanks for to everyone's hard work, we were able to make a suspicious-looking Soujirou. Thank you everyone.

* For his theme, we used Jason's theme from "Friday the 13th" as a reference. The person saying "Fushin, fushin, mono, mono, mono..."
in the song was none other than composer Misawa-san himself.

* The cop theme was also composed with this scene kept in mind. The flying police car is the embodiment of speed. Very cool.

* In the manga when Soujirou is falsily handcuffed, Futaba treats him like a criminal but this was changed to better represent her character.

Thank you for keeping the thread alive, greatly appreciated. Was able to burn the ASS subs into MP4 but, unfortunately, Chinacat and EFNStudio - Used for the OP and general text - fonts didn't translate after doing so. However, the OP fonts display finely. Is there any way to fix this? (For context, I'm using Clever ffmpeg to convert the MP4 and Handbrake to burn. The subs were ripped directly from DmonHiro's release and appear fine in MKVs)
