Why did isekai/native isekai replace the traditional fantasy formula? Are JRPG status screens and tropes really that better?

I like playing RPG video games and I have to say that... not entirely, I still like classic fantasy stories a lot, but I also like when they have LitRPG elements, but I think both have different tones and audiences

traditional fantasy still exists, stop reading whatever slop zoomers tell you to

Because the further we drift from primitive society where things like bravery and sacrifice and true suffering were facts of life, the less we can relate properly to stories that demand we understand them. History begins to feel alien to us if we are expected to dismantle the modern trappings required to survive outside the world of the story. Similarly, the more fantasy stories that have been told the more the general public feels they've already digested every version that could be told. To the layperson, King Arthur is Guts is Parn etc

So isekais are a bit of a cheat in that they allow the author to embrace the trappings of fantasy but also subvert them to hold a modern audience's attention. That way the audience can enjoy the fantasy trappings while imagining themselves more directly in the protagonists shows, engaging the sense that they would also know better than the average medieval pleb. Similarly, the more you indulge modern conventions like "cheats" the more you can keep your audience from feeling like your story is too predictable.

Of course we do but they get completely overshadowed by their isekaislop counterparts. Berserk for example would never be as popular had it come out in this era.

According to the retarded standards I've read in these threads, The Lord of the Rings is a native isekai because (all of this is from the books) in faux-medieval Europe people smoke tobacco, eat potatoes, have a mail system, have glass windows for common buildings like mills, doorknobs, waistcoats with brass buttons, a fucking barometer in Bilbo's house, matches and clocks...

I've only read a couple of Isekai and I'm sick of it. Can't imagine how the Nipons feel with how saturated the market is.

>Berserk for example would never be as popular had it come out in this era.
Berserk isn't that popular though. For context, Berserk in its entire run sold less than Dragonball and One Piece sold last year. In terms of ongoing manga most Isekai's from the last few years have already outsold it's entire run. Sure Berserk is influential but it's very niche.

Imo I think Berserk is fantastic, but the whole IP has been kind of mismanaged
>Very little merchandising
>God awful Anime adaptations
>Little to no tie ins with popular media
>Barely known outside of Japan
If a better publisher had Berserk, it could have sold double what it has.

Native isekai needs to be an auto-filter term already like söy or teebeeych

What is the accepted term for fantasy where the characters talk about their level and stats like you'd talk about your age or weight?

>The Lord of the Rings is a native isekai
Yes
I remember when i first watched Lord of the Rings. One of my favorite scenes is when all the characters gather in the adventurers guild in Rivendell to decide what to do with the ring.
All the characters openly displayed their large stat screens, alongside their adventurer rank, to prove that they were the right person for the quest.
But Gimli (a shortstack kemonomimi girl who is constantly eating food, even in serious situations) grows impatient and tries to destroy the ring with the attack skill:『Greater slash』, a skill she gained after farming uruks for EXP.
However the level difference between her and the ring was too high so her skill failed.
Then SS rank adventurer Elrond used his 『Divine Appraisal 』skill to see that Frodo has a cheat skill rendering him immune to demon lord Saurons power. And so Frodo was chosen to carry the ring.

One more native isekai mention for the schizos.

Usually its called LitRPG in the west and System fiction in places where it originated from.
> (Characters are all statted out for you as they progress along the story, imagine a regular story but you get to see them progress through the game mechanics and grinding as well as if it were a post-game log.)

There's no Adventurer's Guild in Rivendell, the Elven Council that met there was their version of UN war room meeting. There was no native isekai elements at all. Only thing that would be a hint is how Gandalf is this super-human being that's akin to a god walking in flesh like other wizards but their powers usually come at a terrible trade off costs. For something good to happen something bad has to happen in return type of thing.

Native isekai is the creatively bankrupt part of the fantasy genre that relies on all isekai tropes except the actual other world reincarnation trope.
Traditional fantasy should never be grouped with that.

Isekais are pretty fun, the concept at least. I don’t think I’ve ever experienced a good isekai though. After the idea of transferring a normal person from your time, the intrigue doesn’t last long as most of these authors are just not good storytellers. It is pure escapism and neetdom mentality that dominates, and that is ugly and cringe.

> Neetdom mentality dominates.
Perhaps because all those authors who write neets are actually bum-like IRL themselves.
> Probably working as a cashier somewhere or other low-end job and just imagining things and then writing that shit down to pass time.
Or actual children as in 13+ that write the stories influenced by that sort of story telling without other point of reference.

It's only congruent that soulless low-effort IPs are given soulless low-effort settings. Why waste good worldbuilding on something that looks like SAO?
