Q:Did your first Centuria manuscript get a lot of editorial revisions?
A:No, it got very little revision
Q: What are your inspirations for your graphic style?
A: Mangas I read, especially containing violent scenes (Vinland Saga, Berserk)
Q: Among The Odyssey, Lovecraft novels and Jules Verne novels, which had the most influence and how did you learn of these universes
A: Lovecraft, it inspired me for deep see deities
Q: your manga borders between shounen and seinen, who do you believe is your audience ?
A: It is not one of our (Kuramori and editor Lin) concerns, I draw for those that want to read my work (Lin says Jump+ does not concern itself about that as they offer a wide variety of works)
Q: Your manga starts with a definition of slavery, as mangaka and artist, how important do you think it is to address this historic issue in modern society?
A: I am not sure how to answer that as I have not thought of that until now
I can only say I like telling stories with characters starting in the worst conditions and fighting against adversity to create their path
Follow up Q: so slavery was the greatest fight he would face?
A: I wanted to show someone at their lowest and fight to create himself a family, slavery seemed the right condition to illustrate this idea
Q: Julian becomes in charge of a child life even though he only just leaned the feeling of being loved himself, what does this represent in his quest for freedom?
A: Julian is more defined by his loneliness than a quest for freedom, Diana represents the end of this loneliness
Q: What is the inspiration for their parent-child bond that is more a strength for Julian than a burden?
A: I wanted to tell a story about a family that is not united by blood, I have a fascination for people who create strong bonds by choice instead of obligation
Q: sounds like Leon (the movie)
A: you're right. I am influenced by Japanese stories where an adult gets trusted with a child they don't know.
