It doesn't bring everyone back right away, so there's probably a window of time until you're considered dead dead and not just mostly dead like Kato was. So as long as you come back before the retrieval time is finished, which you probably would if you were only dead for 10 seconds, you'd presumably get brought back to the room and healed.
But this is still the world of Gantz, so maybe you're screwed because life just isn't fair.

You're thinking of clinical death.
Being legally dead is something that can happen without actually dying at all, like going missing for long enough that people assume you're dead.
And the situation with Kei is her being chosen by Gantz, not for getting retrieved after a mission.
