Never had a problem with k lite codec pack.

OP here: I figured out my problem is that the internal HDD I am using for storing media files (including my torrented anime) is failing. A diagnostic scan revealed the drive has multiple unrecoverable errors and is no longer reading or writing correctly.

Playing videos from other drives works fine. This drive is also where I keep all my reaction images and all my screenshots of currently airing anime, as well as all the music I've downloaded over the last 15 years. I do have a backup of this drive but it's about 3 months out of date. I won't lose everything at least, when I swap in a new drive which I've already ordered from Amazon.

Duly noted about mpv, I will be looking into it going forward.

2025 is the year of linux on the desktop.

Are you? The best way to use mpv is to leave it at default and only make modifications when needed. Telling people that they need to configure x, y or z before they can even use mpv makes it more daunting than it actually is.

The only recommendation I generally make is that they should enable hwdec, as most people have shit computers and this is the default behavior on players like VLC/web browsers etc.
