Always good to see a new Kaiji fan. Definitely watch season 2, and if you want more of the story I recommend reading the manga by Fukumoto, it's great and still ongoing. Then you can check out other Fukumoto works like Akagi which was also adapted by Madhouse, or the Tonegawa show/manga if you're interested in a comedy spin-off him about the inner workings at Teiai. It's not written by the original mangaka, but it's still very funny.

I liked him, although Washizu is still the best evil old man because of his insane laughter. His insanity turns into supernatural power, mind of matter style lol.

I feel that everyone who hated the bog would have a heart attack if we got season three and they saw it was pretty much just 26 episodes of mahjong, maybe only 25 because first one would likely be just the setup

Mahjong arc is way better because Kaiji and Muraoka are actually thinking and doing things almost every chapter and there's a constant back-and-forth instead of just a handful of plays with 90% watching the Bog with no way to affect the outcome. The mahjong itself is also very simple, I knew nothing about it and could follow along just fine.

It's been a while since I've read the manga, would it really take 26 episodes to adapt 17 steps? I guess Part 3 really is just that one game. I don't think people would dislike it for that though. The Mahjong is simplified, Muraoka is entertaining, and there's a lot of twists that keep things fresh, including the start of Kazuya kino.

I liked both for different reasons. The absolute dread of the underground arc, where Kaiji literally hit rock bottom, sets a perfect foundation for his rise out of the ashes. Also https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-SFkUgId8Y0 is simply awesome. The Bog on the other hand shines because of all the crazy twist and turns.

Seems like it, unfortunately. Every so few years I check his page on ANN, but it really seems like he may never land another job in the industry.
