My favorite NGE trivia is Anno confirming Gendo is his favorite male character in Eva and that he relates to him more than any other character. ROFL

Gendo and Ritsuko are having an affair. They very subtly hint at it with little Rei making her old hag comment to Ritsuko's mom insinuating Gendo is ready to upgrade. Later on in the series they say it in black & white that Gendo and Ritsuko are sexually involved. Also, as Rei gets older, Gendo feels like he's closer to getting Yui back, which makes him start to sour on Ritsuko. Ritsuko picks up on it and lashes out by destroying the empty Rei shells.
