Many wanted to like FSN. They were enticed by the idea of a magic war, but put off by the mana transfers and the protagonist that barely does magic and has never heard of strategy. F/Z was much closer to what they wanted.

Outside of Japan it was considered the first good fate adaptation. Also battle royale and game of thrones.

Battle Royale wasn't even popular yet back then. The Hunger Games movies came out in 2012, followed by some niche mods for Minecraft/DayZ etc.
