It's not that deep. Yams retconned his story because the japs just have shit taste in media and only cared about their ships, so he wrote accordingly. The ending was well received there.

Yes you can, Isayama could have gone indpendent during the final few chapters and write Eren killing the other countries threatening his. And frankly have Eren kill any traitors like Armin or infiltrators like Annie. Only the correct people are allowed to live by the story's ending.
