If it had been released 20 years ago it would not have received much attention, even during its airing. The only positive aspect of this show is that it avoids some of the more annoying tropes of modern fantasy anime and the only reason it does that is because it imports the tropes from battle shounen instead.

Frieren is cookie-cutter writing that fishes in much shallower waters, mostly generic isekai and fantasy stuff from last 10 years, plus the Dragon Quest tropes that are core part of that.
