I apologize to Trigger. I still think they are a mid-level studio that are hit-or-miss in their track record.

But Khara made me realize just how shit Post-Gainax can actually go. GQuuuuuuX was worse than Franxx and Kiznaiver. They can't write to save their lives and it shows.

TTGL, Gunbuster and RE:Cutie Honey were the only truly worthwhile Gainax anime, so yes. KLK and Gridman alone clear rest of their catalog combined imho.
Haven't seen KareKano but it's popular on xitter, so I'm probably not missing much.

It's crazy how hard the former Gainax staff fell off. KLK was pretty decent, Kiznaiver was ok, Little Witch was boring pseudo yuri, DarliFra was unbearable and after that the shows became bottom of the barrel trash pandering to westeners.

Are we expected to factor in the MAL scores here? Because DitF being rated higher than Gridman should be a very clear indication not to do that.

But regardless yes. Gainax was a sinking ship managed by retards from basically the get-go. First it was Gonzo, then Khara, then Trigger and all the guys who went to A-1/Cloverworks, then Gaina. All of their talent eventually saw the writing on the wall and left to form their own studios or join others while the Gainax management floundered making backdoor deals, selling tomatoes and putting girls on casting couches for ugly bastards. Literally made every wrong decision they possibly could and only got by because they artists they had working for them kept turning out hits. Their death spiral was satisfying to watch.

A lot of people cared for the plot, that's what kept it popular. Then it fucked up so badly that it left us wondering why the hell we ever bothered. In hindsight it was poorly written and badly paced, but it had neat ideas and execution at times. It's astounding it managed something as kino as the storybook episode only to end on a finale that just goes "yeah, uh, we win now, the end".

I don't get why people treat Trigger with kiddie gloves when a bunch of other "mid-level" studios have been able to make artistic AND consistently well animated adaptations while Trigger stuff is all over the place and constantly cutting corners. They couldn't even get it together for the Dungeon Meshi adaptation and had super medicore environment/background art in a fantasy setting and just okay color direction. Just one or two quirkily animated sakuga moments every few episodes doesn't make up for a lack of strong art direction. Science Saru and Cloverworks blows them out of the water.

>up to episode 15 people were saying it was the best anime of all time.
Because that was literally all that was pre-planned. DitF had a week break where they aired one of those re-cap/staff commentary episodes and I'm certain it was in an interview during that episode where the director said, the first 6 episodes were set in stone and his vision for a long time, then up to episode 15 was more loosely planned. But after that were just winging it.

I do not know how the director pitched this to Aniplex and got 2 cours greenlit but maybe they were just gambling on Gainax reunion magic to carry it through it's second cour to a string finish. But what they got was an ending so bad that it killed the IP before anybody could even turn a profit on it. Still one of the biggest blunders I have ever seen.

If the anime had been a single cour with 13 episodes and ended like Yabuki's manga adaptation did it would have been solidified as a hit.

Trigger deserves the hate they get, for sure. I was one of their long-time critics here. Their best work was the first LWA movie and it's basically been middling from there. They largely keep telling the same story over and over again with the same GAINAX legacy animation tricks and fanservice bait. Many studios have better track records than them even if they don't have the cult-like fanbase to match Trigger's.

It's just that Khara are worse than them in every way.

Because most studios are kinda riding off the coattails of successful mangaka. Trigger rarely doing adaptations means that everything good or bad about their shows is entirely on them. Dandadan may be a good adaptation but it's still being carried by the fact that Dandadan is a good manga in the first place, nobody is praising Science Saru for their character designs or writing because that's usually someone else's doing.

Hardly, SS elevated the fuck out of Eizouken which has some of the most shit art I've seen in a "big" manga as well as doing a super stylized adaptation in Scott Pilgrim as well. Even for Dandadan they understood the assignment by going crazy with the color schemes, which is the exact opposite of what the Chainsaw man Mappa adaptation did by going for a directorial art style that didn't carry over any of the manga's energy and style. Trigger does just okay on both their original works and their adaptation and covers all their shortcomings with "stylish" animation tricks that are going out of style now that webgen animators are all over the place.

No, it's more like the webgen animator scene has evolved to the point where they can be used as either an undetectable replacment to analog or the artsy shit. Something like Heavenly Delusion's opening is considered webgen "cool" now and Trigger's style isn't seen as innovative anymore since it's the same stuff they've been doing since the 2010s.

None of their key creative people were in key creative positions so I don't think it's a stretch to not pin the overall fuck-up on them like so many people tend to do. Nobody ever mentions the retarded director from A-1 Atsushi Nishigori or his co-writer who fucked off after a handful of episodes. Nobody mentions A-1 studio at all despite being the biggest contributor to the project. Most people probably don't even know that Anno's studio Khara also worked on it.

I dont consider Heavenly Delusion, Boogiepop 2019 or Made in Abyss Dawn of the Deep Soul Trigger anime either despite them working on all of those.

>posts a character more irrelevant than even the most irrelevant member of the Franxx cast
Comoli is Naomi but somehow did even less than she did.

>well-executed and fine for what it is
Irrelevant when it's conceptually and spiritually repulsive. Demon Slayer is also well-executed and fine for what it does but I have a feeling the average fag who thinks Onimai is good will object to that statement.

Itโ€™s a โ€œWhat ifโ€ story that mashed so much things together in only 12 episode

As a whole itโ€™s too bloated and as a nostalgia trip it was okay. But for the memes it spawned, it was a gold mine

Why the fuck are you acting like the people who disliked it are the weird ones? This show was utter dogshit.
