How do anime that seem extremely popular at the time become almost forgotten without any legacy as soon as it finishes?

>How do anime that seem extremely popular at the time become almost forgotten without any legacy as soon as it finishes?
Cuz Darling and 02 in the honey FranXX was the very last show that could\can or will be recognized as "canonically japanese". It was a calm morning of 2018 before the upcoming storm which turned around target audience of anime.
You don't even need a proof for it. Or how else Violet Sabergarden, such err and blunder piece of soap muh art managed not only to become aoty but outshadow every other shows?

How? - Normies.

It's well written, usually trigger starts strong but then goes into complete shit and fans argue what could be. Franxx is consistent but not exceptional, character arcs are good but character development just schematic and weak. Like turning edgy and lewd 02 into a cheerful Marin isn't convincing

By having a shit ending that an overwhelming majority of people hated. And not even just the ending itself but the 8 or so episodes leading up to the ending being just generally unenjoyable compared to what came before. DitF remains to this day one of the biggest blunders I have ever seen in terms of killing a cash cow before it could even be milked all because the writer and director decided to seppuku the show in typical Japanese fashion.

>Why did they do it?
Because they are inept. They didn't even have the second half of the show pre-writen before starting production. Everything after episode 15 they were winging it. Atsushi Nishigori looked at what his betters did in Eva, TTGL, KLK and thought to himself that he could just do the same thing, he thought it would be cool for the real unforseen enemy to suddenly reveal themsleves at the last minute and for the conflict to suddenly rise into space where the main couple would die in an act of self sacrifice that wouldn't even destroy the new unforshadowed enemy. All the while serving up a sideplot line ripped out of Adam Sandler's 50 first dates for the only side characters who mattered as if it were something new and profound. He did all of this while failing to realize that the only thing people cared about was the main couple to get a tangible happy ending where they could be together. But no, muh reincarnation. Hurr durr muh Japanese spirituality folded over 10000 times so profound. Preaseu crappu!

Meanwhile the Mangaka behind TLR, basically having to cut his manga adaptation short due to lack of interest from the horrible anime reception had the wherewithal to give people what they wanted.

Original anime can be very exciting to follow as it airs. Lasting popularity depends on quality and other factors.
Darling in the Franxx had nothing going on after that whatever ending.

The Aliens really ruined all of the themes. Everything about the kids having to learn to make decisions for themselves and not listen to evil adults? Lol it was evil aliens so no hard choice has to be made. Theme about selfish adults ruining the planet for future generations? Lol it was evil aliens so no introspection, guilt or blame has to dealt with. Nines obviously being written as being part of an agenda, status, and ideology within APE that the parasites were unaware of? Lol it was aliens the Nines were apparently just pretending to have an ideology. The fact the human APE dudes were in on some plan to upload everyones brains in earlier episodes? Lol evil alien plan that half of APE knows nothing about. Hell why even have human members?

I guess it's just a result of fan theories and false expectations when the show was on air.
The first 2 episodes were made as a bait and they are a little misleading about the tone of the anime: they edgy, serious, and lewd when the rest is almost family friendly(for grandparents and their grandchildren)

The show is extremely consistent in themes and pacing, but consistency isn't equal to greatness. It has that vibe of a story edited by your school teacher who toned down some parts to make it harmless overall.

People treat the ending as some SnK tragedy but it's just the part of Hiro and 02 is weak and contradicts the theme of keeping promises

I don't believe that popularity = quality in any direction. In fact, I remember watching the first episode when it was airing and laughing my ass off at the bird who crashed at a window and the "deep" monologue about it, it was just as try hard as Steins Gate.
In any case, at some point media became very disposable and I think it's because companies, whether western or asian, make it with the intention of being quickly discarded so people can move into the next big thing. Attention spans may be on an all time low and people need a constant influx of shiny new media to keep themselves entertained.

It's due to the amount of anime content that comes out per year. There is more anime that comes out per season than used to come out over the course of a year, even up until the early 10s. The number (and percentage) of 2-cours shows--not to mention 3+ cours shows--has plummeted dramatically in the last 15 years.

How would you have rewritten the second half of the show?

It's been almost 8 years and old ass moeshitters still can't get over it:
-muh second half
-muh hype
-muh ntr
-muh clone of @name
-muh trigger
-muh 6\15 eps
-muh rewrite
Just admit you are no better than slopeaters-normies who are even more moralless faggots who's ass got on fire because of fairy tail about love which flew through your empty head without any resistance.

God bless Abe for such magnificent gift to humanity

Contrary to popular belief, inserting ayys in the last second is not kino.

I mean most of their stuff is just stealing ideas from somewhere else, the Trigger staff prays every night for Obari's death.

Weird way of saying at the start of episode 1. The letterboxed opening was an immediate red flag.

What popular anime and manga from the last 10 years will be remembered and be seen as a classic for later generations? I heard Frieren might, but I haven't seen it yet so I can't judge.

It literally was a Cloverworks, A-1 and Trigger collaboration. I don't get why Trigger gets all the hate for what happened.

Steins;Gate's writer was always a hack, I don't even think you need to watch Franxx to figure that out.
