do you need to watch the UC movies if you watch the regular tv anime? It doesn't seem like new animation either

I'd suggest that for 0079: you lose some sequentiality in the first two, but you get better animation and some unforgettable music in the last. 0079 in general is worth watching both as a series and as a movie trilogy.
For Zeta absolutely stick to the series, the movies are not good and the new animation doesn't blend well with the old one at all.
Do watch CCA because it's a very good movie.
The only one I'd recommend watching only in movie form is maybe G-Reco, because the narrative is less confusing in that format than in short episodes.
