Honestly, yeah, pretty good. It's squarely within the territory of classic action / adventure Shonen manga, but it does enough things different to feel fresh.

The art is good, the character tend to be interesting and break a bit with most cliche too, the love element gets developed but doesn't consume the whole story or distract from the plot.

And it looks pretty.

I thought it was really good when I binge read the manga after season 1 of the anime ended; but after binging the manga again recently because of season 2, i think it’s bad.

The main characters (specifically Momo) become way too annoying, since the Evil Eye Arc literally every other chapter she’s a nagging jealous bitch that gets upset at Okarun if he has any interaction with someone, and not just girls, even when he interacts with guys she’s jealous, it’s a gag that stops being “cute” and gets stale fast.

The SoL school chapters are extremely boring. Everyone having a sob story origin also gets stale. And finally none of the characters actually progress, other than power scaling they’re all currently at the same stage as they were when they were introduced.

Honestly, good analysis. I think it’s fun and the art is beautiful. But it’s pretty shallow and it doesn’t have the legs to go down as a classic. Nor does it hold up to rereads, anime is particularly slow and boring on rewatch.

Yeah, it really excels as a series when it's basically like an anime version of Scooby-Doo and they're investigating some weird alien or ghost. Unfortunately the author is an Ultraman addict and is barely holding himself back from constantly having the kids engage in planet scale battles with kaiju or waves of ultrapowerful invading ufos.

Dude just has no feel for pacing/grounding with this series. It's always way too much or way too little.

I stopped reading around half way through Vamola's arc. It really has a lot of good things, the art's strong, the monster of the week are cool and spectacular, the humor's fun, you get fan service

But the character department is weak. Momo's lingerie, Okarun's and Aira's cool transformations were enough for me to bite the hook, but none of the main cast has enough charisma to reel me into the boat.

I tried giving DDD a try with the anime but I have a huge problem with its premise.
I despise shitty teenage romcom and expected to just get compelling worldbuilding around this folklore/aliens duality, which is really a fantasy/scifi or nature/science opposition.
However I think tatsu doesn't have enough in him to make his universe compelling, if you watched any natsume season you'd get 100 times better yokai stories with way more grounded drama. As for the aliens it's painfully surface level, they fight the flatwood monster in ep2 but its only gimmick its being a sumo and nothing as to with actual ufology.
His alien game is criminally bad and uninspired, probably why he just pulls out shin godzilla out of nowhere at some point.
I went a checked the wiki to see how much more aliens are to come and it's only a single race of weird fodder Monsters and some humans, this shit is really hard carried by the art.
