I heard Adventure Sonic was them trying to redesign Sonic to appeal more to Japanese, but if Japan loves kawaii so much, you would think the classic designs would appeal more to their sensibilities. Sonic can be cool/cute. Modern Sonic is still a bit ugly to me.

Frontiers sold pretty well in Japan. They like the shounen direction the series is taking. Also the film did pretty well in its second week, the first week was bad because they dropped it at a time when everybody was going back to their inaka shitholes with no movie theaters for the holidays.
