>>280430046 (OP)>I'm not interested in CSM at allThat's the problem. His style of directing didn't mesh with CSM at all, and seemed to actively spite the source material at times. He didn't want to make "Chainsaw Man: The Anime," instead he effectively made "Ryu Nakayama's Chainsaw Man" which alienated a huge portion of CSM's existing audience. This meant that in order for the anime to be successful, he would need to capture a new audience of people who specifically like "Ryu Nakayama's Chainsaw Man." He has a lot of vocal support in the west, but he's mostly despised in Japan because he tried to "improve" CSM. There's a lot that can be said about this, but without getting into too many specific failures, he essentially tried to imitate Hollywood movies and apply that to CSM, using the mangaka's well-known love of movies as an excuse. The problem with this is that Nakayama has an incredibly narrow and shallow understanding of the western film tradition. As such, his CSM "adaptation" (more like an interpretation) was a plodding, colorless, slow-motion train wreck. The funniest part? CSM's biggest inspirations, especially in Part 1, are FLCL and Spiderman. You will see none of that influence in Nakayama's direction.
