Good shows with high quality narritives still come out, and they still receive attention and high scores. Steins;Gate like Suzumiya Haruhi is a product of anime being a lot more experimental than the formulaic show concepts we know today
as with most experimental takes on art, its progressively weird in its presentation and is in itself plagued by extremes, its ups being far above the rest of its peers but its downs equally harsh when looked back on. they should not be judged as masterpieces themselves but as the guides for those following what they teach

I think Haruhi is a good comparison because both it and Steins;Gate are anime that I would say have not aged well. Haruhi was far more groundbreaking than Steins;Gate though, I don't know what Steins;Gate teaches or influenced that's of any worth.

It's certainly an interesting time capsule of the older to middle days of the internet. Back before everything became a wiki or a reddit and you actually had to dig around for stuff and communicate with people. People were more tech savvy to even get online in the first place so it made for a very different environment.
