If the second season is also two cours of 12-14 episodes each, then there's basically nothing left of the manga other than whatever comes after goddess monument arc, so they better get to writing and drawing.

In their case, the manga was on hiatus because they works on the anime in collaboration with the studio. I think this kind of hiatus is acceptable when we can get a quality product like Frieren's anime.

Not everyone is like WSJ where managaka get locked in a cage forced to pump out their weekly endless slop until the manga dies or the author does
Shogakukan are probably fine with the breaks so that they don't risk losing their audience with overly slopping writing, more so with their biggest titles like Frieren or Conan

She probably will, the world is moving towards a peaceful age of humans and Serie stands in the way of that. So either she dies or she changes, but that would probably also need her to relinquish her position as defacto head of the continents magic users which seems unlikely

Humanity's magic evolved for 1000 years without her, she only got on board 50 years ago. I'm sure they can move on without her.

Either way her place in the narrative is pretty much set in stone. The future is for Frieren and Fern, being the mages for a human led peaceful era. So Serie will be a thing of the past, along with the remnants of the demon threat, that's just the near inevitable way this shonen manga will end

Frieren would make sense. She loves magic for its own sake and thinks that it should be free. She is a direct continuation of Flamme's philosophy and her taking over would be the perfect anithesis to Serie's philosophy of gatekeeping magic. In addition to that she contributed to humanity's analysis of Zoltrak.

It would also be an interesting change to her character, as it would force a bit more structure and urgency on her careless life style.

However, if this were to happen it would need to come in one way or the other after the visit to Ende, and it's unclear if she will live by the end or sacrifice herself to save Fern/Stark and also get to Himmel.

>the world is moving towards a peaceful age of humans
It's actually moving towards an age of demon prosperity in a thousand years. The demons are actually playing 4D chess across time itself and humans don't even know it's happening so they're dancing right along with Schlact's plans without realizing it. I look forward to seeing how Frieren ends up being personally instrumental in bringing about demon prosperity.

>the world is moving towards a peaceful age of humans and Serie stands in the way of that
As far as we know Serie just teaches and studies magic, even if her general mindset isn't super well adjusted to the modern times that's not going to directly affect anything an immediate sense. At worst it's just something that is reflected in the institutions that she shapes.
>So either she dies or she changes
Serie has changed. Her founding the continental magic organization or supporting Lernen therin and taking up the role as figurehead. That is pretty much the direct opposite of what she did when Flamme created the imperial mages.
>>280494801
>[Serie's] place in the narrative is pretty much set in stone
Serie's vulnerabilty has been foreshadowed with the anti-magic cristals, the old shadow warrior's very near to successful attempt on Frieren's life and the supposed death of Minus the witch. But I think only thing that's guaranteed to not survive this arc is the institution of the Shadow Warriors. I wouldn't even be all that surprised if the twist will be something like Frรคse from the Special Forces manipulating the remnants of the Shadow Warriors into smashing themselves into an immovable obstacle to get rid of them.

None of this really matters since she won't be in the story after this arc anyway, she's barely in this arc as it is.
Sense and Ubel are more relevant, Serie is just a plot device, which is why it's likely she will die. Her only narrative purpose is to be surpassed by Flamme's legacy.

I wonder if Frieren got her Holy Emblem back when Flamme was alive 1000 years ago, or sometime more recent. It predates her heroes' journey. But all in all her having it is kind of strange given that she doesn't go out of her way for external validation.

>>280495362
>[Serie] won't be in the story after this arc anyway
Death isn't the only final goodbye in life.
>Flamme's legacy
Flamme did more than just hate demons, hope for peace and train Frienen. Flame changed the character of the Empire and of Serie herself. In fact I suspect that the dissonance between the living memory of Flamme inclosed within Frienen and Serie; and the cultural memory of Flamme preserved by the Empire is something of particular intrest to Yamada Kanehito.

Not really, she's been barely involved. The focus has been around everyone else trying to figure out and foil the plot.
It's not like Golden Lands where Denken is an active part all the way though, Serie is more like a passenger. As I said, plot device.

Indeed, Heiter and the others didn't even know what it was, but saw it as something very old. Given that after getting styled on by Macht 600 years ago, Frieren retreated to a life of seclusion in the forest for 500 years until Himmel dragged her back out into the world, it stands to reason that Frieren received recognition as a great mage over half a millennium ago.
The great mages we know of are Serie, Flamme, Frieren, and Minus. With an implication there for another for the leader of the court. Genau calls Frieren "the last great mage" suggesting that no one has earned the title since Frieren earned it. Which means that currently there are no human great mages around, unlike Flamme, and that any elven great mages around are ones that earned the distinction before Frieren did.
