I think she always wanted to get along with Yuu, but she was just so fixated on her own talent that beyond providing for his basic needs, her career would always take precedence over him. Yuu for his part stopped trying to reach out because she wasn't responding, and probably grew to resent her to some degree โ hardly something you can fault him for, but you can see why he'd feel partially responsible. And then she felt comfortable focusing on her career even more because of that. It's not that she was being malicious or anything, she just couldn't see where she was going wrong before the illness forced her to reconsider her perspective.
Point being that even though it was ultimately her fault, it's probably not something she could have fixed on her own. Of course it wasn't Yuu's responsibility to fix it either, but he probably thinks he *could* have, which is why he feels so strongly about not letting the same thing happen to the sisters.
